Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping supports the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route, despite the absence of any official confirmation from Beijing.
Trump made the assertion amid growing international concern over tensions surrounding the strategic waterway, through which a significant portion of the world’s crude oil exports pass daily. However, Chinese authorities have neither publicly endorsed the proposal nor issued any formal commitment regarding the matter.
The comments have sparked speculation over possible behind-the-scenes diplomatic engagements between Washington and Beijing, particularly as global markets remain sensitive to disruptions in energy supply routes.
China, one of the world’s largest importers of crude oil, has consistently called for stability in the Gulf region but has so far refrained from taking a public position on any coordinated move concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
Analysts say Beijing’s silence may reflect a cautious diplomatic approach, as China seeks to balance its strategic energy interests with broader geopolitical considerations in the Middle East.
