Top figures of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have arrived in Rivers State to monitor the party’s ongoing House of Representatives primaries amid growing influence of loyalists aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Among those present are the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, Rivers APC governorship aspirant O.K. Chinda, as well as Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker Kelechi Nwogu.
The primaries, which are being closely watched across the politically strategic oil-rich state, are largely dominated by aspirants believed to be loyal to Wike, a former Rivers governor whose influence continues to shape the state’s political landscape despite his role in the APC-led federal administration.
Party insiders say consensus arrangements were successfully reached in several federal constituencies. However, direct primaries are being conducted in others, setting the stage for tightly contested battles among contenders seeking the party’s ticket ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The development further underscores Wike’s growing grip on political structures in Rivers State, as alignments and cross-party alliances continue to redefine the state’s power dynamics.
