Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has said she feels more comfortable in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) than in any other political party, fuelling speculation about her possible entry into the 2027 governorship race.
Speaking to supporters at a recent political gathering, Iyabo Obasanjo described the APC as a platform that aligns more closely with her personal convictions and vision for public service, though she stopped short of formally declaring any political ambition.
Her comments come amid growing rumours that she is weighing a bid for governor in the forthcoming election, a move that would mark a significant step in her political career and add a prominent name to the already crowded field of aspirants.
While neither Obasanjo nor the APC leadership has confirmed any governorship plans, political observers say her public expression of comfort within the ruling party is widely seen as a strategic signal ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Iyabo Obasanjo has maintained a relatively low political profile compared with her father, who served as Nigeria’s president from 1999 to 2007, but analysts note that her pedigree and emerging visibility could reshape dynamics in her home state should she decide to run.
For now, her remarks have reignited debate within political circles, with supporters urging her to take the plunge, while critics await a clearer declaration of intent.
