Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has led a federal government delegation to Kwara State following deadly attacks on Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, pledging swift military action and humanitarian support for affected residents.
Shettima said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the area as part of renewed efforts to restore peace and prevent further violence.
Speaking on Saturday during a condolence visit to the communities and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the vice president reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity, describing the attack as a tragic blow to innocent civilians.
“The President has directed that all necessary security measures be taken to stabilise Kaiama and its surrounding areas,” Shettima told community leaders. “Every arm of government is working together to ensure that these communities regain peace and confidence.”
He added that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had been instructed to immediately mobilise resources, in collaboration with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency, to provide relief materials and support for displaced families.
Governor AbdulRazaq thanked the federal government for its swift response, while residents called for sustained security presence to prevent a repeat of the violence.
The attack, which occurred earlier in the week, claimed several lives and forced many residents to flee their homes, underscoring ongoing security challenges in parts of Nigeria despite intensified military operations.
