The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election in Rivers State.

Announcing the results, the electoral commission said Nwogu secured 47,961 votes, comfortably defeating his closest rivals in a contest marked by a wide margin.

According to the official figures:

* PDP – 47,961 votes
* All Progressives Congress (APC) – 1,647 votes
* Action Alliance (AA) – 1,175 votes
* Labour Party (LP) – 367 votes

The outcome reflects the influence of the political coalition led by Nyesom Wike, popularly referred to as the “rainbow coalition”. All four participating parties are members of the alliance, which had unanimously endorsed Senator-elect Olaka Nwogu as its preferred candidate ahead of the by-election.

The decisive victory further strengthens the coalition’s grip on the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, with Nwogu emerging as the clear choice of voters.
