Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to governors and political leaders backing what he described as acts of betrayal, declaring that anyone who supports treachery will eventually fall victim to it.

Speaking during a political gathering on Thursday, Wike appeared to take aim at some governors and politicians of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) whom he accused of supporting Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara against him.

Whether you are a senator, member of the House of Representatives, minister or governor, Wike said, “once you support betrayers, people will also betray you in life.”

He specifically cautioned second-term governors nursing ambitions of installing successors, warning that backing political betrayal would undermine their plans.

“Every second-term governor who wants to put a successor and is supporting betrayal, you will never survive it,” Wike said. “From the day your successor is inaugurated, the trouble will start. Mine took months. Yours will begin immediately.”

The former Rivers State governor framed his remarks in spiritual terms, suggesting that political actions carry consequences beyond strategy and alliances.

Wike and Governor Fubara have been locked in a prolonged political feud over control of Rivers State’s political structure, a crisis that has split the state’s House of Assembly and drawn in federal authorities and party leaders.

Although Wike did not mention names, his comments were widely interpreted as a warning to APC governors and powerbrokers allegedly backing Fubara amid the ongoing standoff.

The dispute has become one of Nigeria’s most closely watched political battles, raising concerns about governance in Rivers State and exposing deep fault lines within the country’s political elite.
