Troops from Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of spying for the Islamic State West Africa Province and helping plan attacks on military positions in Borno State.

Security sources say the suspect, Mustapha Mohammed, was picked up by soldiers from 19 Brigade at the Kekeno-Monguno checkpoint on June 19. They acted on solid intelligence. The man is accused of gathering information for ISWAP and working directly with the terrorists.

Early questioning tied him to a specific plot against troops at the Forward Operating Base in Kekeno.

“Acting on credible intelligence, troops of 19 Brigade deployed at the Kekeno-Monguno checkpoint arrested one Mustapha Mohammed, aged 26 years, suspected to be an ISWAP terrorist spy.

“The suspect was arrested for allegedly collaborating with terrorists on possible plans to attack troops deployed at FOB Kekeno,” the report stated.

He remains in custody with 19 Brigade. Interrogators are still working to extract more intelligence from him.
