Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has become the first governor in the state’s democratic history to secure re-election for a consecutive second term since the return to civilian rule in 1999, according to Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.
Bamidele described the development as a reflection of the confidence reposed in the governor by the people of Ekiti, attributing the achievement to his style of governance, commitment to development and inclusive leadership.
He said the governor’s re-election marks a significant political milestone for the state, noting that no previous Ekiti governor had achieved back-to-back electoral victories since Nigeria’s democratic transition.
The Senate Leader also commended residents and stakeholders for their participation in the democratic process, expressing optimism that the renewed mandate would further strengthen governance and accelerate development across the state.
The historic feat places Oyebanji in a unique position in Ekiti’s political landscape, underscoring what supporters describe as sustained public trust in his administration.
