In a groundbreaking move to harness Nigeria’s youthful energy, President Bola Tinubu announced plans to craft the nation’s inaugural National Industrial Manpower Development Policy. The announcement came during a compelling keynote address delivered by Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Tinubu’s behalf at the National Industrial Manpower Summit (NIMS) 2025, held at the prestigious State House Conference Centre in Abuja on Tuesday.
With Nigeria boasting a median age of just 17, Tinubu emphasized the untapped potential of the country’s vibrant youth. “Our young people are not just a statistic—they are the heartbeat of our nation’s future,” he declared. “This policy will ensure their skills match the demands of a dynamic industrial economy, positioning Nigeria as a global competitor.”
The President called for urgent, actionable recommendations to bridge the gap between education and industry needs, stressing the need for robust public-private partnerships. “We cannot wait for the world to pause for us,” he urged. “This summit is a clarion call to reshape how we prepare our workforce for the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
Tinubu pledged swift action to review and implement viable proposals, underscoring his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s industrial landscape. The policy aims to align workforce training with market demands, fostering a new era of economic growth and opportunity for the nation’s youth.
