A former Chief of Army Staff has warned that terrorists could soon escalate their campaign of violence by targeting governors, ministers, senators and other senior government officials if decisive action is not taken to curb the growing insecurity across Nigeria.

The retired military chief said the country’s security challenges are evolving rapidly, warning that the failure to dismantle terrorist networks could embolden armed groups to extend their attacks beyond civilians and security personnel to high-ranking public office holders.

He stressed the need for coordinated military operations, stronger intelligence gathering and sustained government commitment to prevent the security situation from deteriorating further.

His remarks come amid persistent attacks by armed groups in several parts of the country, raising fresh concerns over the threat posed by terrorism and banditry to Nigeria’s national security.
