A senior military figure has denied any involvement in an alleged coup plot, despite acknowledging limited contact with a key figure under investigation and the circulation of controversial messages.

General Gana said he was familiar with Colonel Ma’aji and aware of the officer’s promotion challenges, but insisted he had no knowledge of any plan to overthrow the government.

“I would have reported it if I did,” he said in a recording reviewed by investigators.

Authorities, however, say they have linked him to a N2 million transfer, a development that has raised further questions as the probe unfolds.

Gana admitted forwarding a purported coup speech and several anti-government messages on WhatsApp, but maintained he neither authored the content nor endorsed it.

He also denied participating in reconnaissance activities or any fund-raising linked to the alleged plot, distancing himself from what investigators describe as a wider network under scrutiny.
