Nigeria’s Senate has dismissed a call by former Edo State governor and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, seeking an investigation into military expenditure, even as insecurity continues to raise alarm across parts of the country.
Oshiomhole had urged lawmakers to open a probe into how funds allocated to the armed forces are being managed, arguing that greater transparency was necessary to address the worsening security situation and restore public confidence.
However, the upper chamber rejected the proposal, effectively shutting down the move for a legislative inquiry into defence spending.
The decision comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with attacks by armed groups, kidnappings, and other security challenges in several regions, prompting renewed debates over accountability and the effectiveness of security funding.
Lawmakers did not provide detailed reasons for the rejection during the session, but the matter has further intensified public discussion around military transparency and oversight in the face of ongoing insecurity.
