Following Nigeria’s vital 1-0 win over Rwanda that rekindled hopes for the 2026 World Cup, Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has issued a heartfelt plea to Nigerian football fans. She urged them to extend the same passion and support they give to the Super Eagles to the women’s national team.
Taking to her X account shortly after the Super Eagles’ victory in Uyo, Alozie wrote, “All the fans showing up for the Super Eagles game, don’t forget to show up for the Super Falcons too.”
The plea highlights an ongoing concern over the disparity in support between Nigeria’s men’s and women’s football teams. Despite being Nigeria’s most decorated national side with nine African championships, the Super Falcons often attract smaller crowds and less media attention compared to their male counterparts.
Michelle Alozie herself has been instrumental in the Falcons’ recent success, playing a key role in Nigeria securing their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco earlier this year. Her stoppage-time winner in the semifinals against South Africa and solid defence in the dramatic final victory showcase the team’s calibre.
Alozie’s message also underscores the broader call for recognition and equality in Nigerian football circles, as she reminds fans that the women’s team fights for national pride just as fiercely as the men’s.
The Super Eagles’ win over Rwanda was boosted by Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare’s goal and tremendous vocal support from thousands at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. Alozie hopes that this fervour will now extend to the Super Falcons, celebrating their achievements and supporting them in future fixtures.
