The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has declared the purported expulsion of Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, as null and void. This development comes amidst ongoing party leadership tussles and legal battles.

Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the National Secretary of NNPP, clarified in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday that the expulsion announced by a dismissed state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, holds no legal weight.

He emphasised, “One begins to ask how can someone who is not a member of NNPP pronounce the expulsion of a serving member from the New Nigeria People’s Party?” Olaposi questioned.

Referring to recent court rulings, Olaposi noted that judgements by the FCT and Abia State High Courts had confirmed the removal of Dungurawa and others loyal to former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso from party leadership roles. Therefore, Dungurawa “has no locus standi to take any decision on NNPP matters, talk less of expelling a sitting member of the House of Representatives.”

Olaposi also accused Senator Kwankwaso’s faction of orchestrating the move to “discredit Hon. Abdulmumin” after failing to sway presidential decisions in their favour.

Warning against internal divisions damaging NNPP’s political strength, Olaposi urged Governor Abba Yusuf to “head to Lagos and apologise to the founder and leadership of the NNPP” to maintain unity within Kano State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
