Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor and the candidate to fly the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state’s 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement comes ahead of the party’s gubernatorial primaries and follows what the governor described as extensive consultations with party leaders and political stakeholders across the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday, AbdulRazaq praised Yahaya Seriki as “young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded,” describing him as a skilled political mobiliser with deep grassroots support and strong investments in the state.
“I have no doubt about his capacity and that his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time,” the governor said.
The announcement is expected to shape the political landscape within the APC in Kwara, where AbdulRazaq remains a dominant figure ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Despite publicly backing Yahaya Seriki, the governor stressed that the endorsement does not prevent other aspirants from contesting in the party primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
“I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continuous success of the party,” he added.
The endorsement signals an early consolidation of support within the ruling party, potentially giving Yahaya Seriki a significant advantage as the race for Kwara’s top office gathers momentum.
