The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, alleging that senior police officials in Enugu State are shielding criminal suspects and using the justice system to target victims and whistleblowers.

In a petition submitted to the police chief, the rights organisation accused the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Enugu State Command, CP Disu, of presiding over actions that undermine due process and erode public confidence in law enforcement.

RULAAC claimed that rather than ensuring impartial investigations, police authorities have allegedly protected influential suspects while deploying criminal charges against individuals seeking justice. The organisation described the development as a troubling abuse of police powers and a threat to the rule of law.

The advocacy group urged the Inspector-General to launch an independent investigation into the allegations and ensure that officers found culpable are held accountable. It further called for measures to safeguard the integrity of ongoing investigations and restore public trust in the police force.

The police have yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
