The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared Peter Obi as the party’s sole presidential aspirant ahead of its upcoming primaries, strengthening his grip on the party’s ticket in the race toward Nigeria’s next general election.

Obi arrived at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja at about 6:45pm on Tuesday, accompanied by Victor Umeh, the senator representing Anambra Central.

The screening exercise, conducted by the party’s national screening committee, formally confirmed Obi’s eligibility to contest under the NDC platform, effectively leaving him unchallenged in the party’s presidential primary.

The development is expected to further energise Obi’s supporters as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the election season in Africa’s most populous nation.

Party officials have yet to announce the date for the formal ratification of Obi’s candidacy, but insiders say the process is expected to proceed without opposition.
