Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, has called on Nigerians to align with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing it as a credible vehicle for democratic engagement.

In a message to his supporters, Kwankwaso urged widespread registration with the NDC, framing the move as part of a broader effort to strengthen democratic participation in the country.

The appeal comes after Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, formally joined the NDC on Sunday. Their defection followed their exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing uncertainty over the party’s future.

The uncertainty stems from developments linked to an April 30 Supreme Court ruling in Nigeria, which has triggered shifts within opposition ranks and prompted realignments across the political landscape.

Analysts say the entry of both politicians into the NDC could reshape opposition dynamics, particularly as parties and figures reposition ahead of future elections.

Kwankwaso’s call signals an attempt to consolidate support under a new political banner, amid growing debate over coalition-building and the viability of emerging platforms in Nigeria’s evolving democracy.
