Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned a court clerk-turned-social media user over allegations of cybercrime and incitement, accusing him of spreading false information about the Nigerian military.
The defendant, Chidiebere Justice Mark, also known online as “Justice Crack”, was brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges bordering on cybercrime, publication of false information, and conduct allegedly capable of inciting public disorder.
Prosecutors say Mark circulated a viral video on April 28 via his X account @JusticeCrack, falsely alleging that soldiers of the Nigerian Army were poorly fed. Authorities claim the post was designed to provoke public anger, distrust, and hostility toward the armed forces.
The DSS also accused him of publishing material likely to cause fear and breach public peace, and of attempting to commit a felony by disseminating derogatory content about the military.
Following his arraignment, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered that he be remanded in DSS custody. The case was adjourned to May 25 for trial and consideration of a possible bail application.
The prosecution argues the offences fall under provisions of Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act and the Criminal Code, underscoring the government’s tightening stance on online content involving security institutions.
