Galatasaray have extended the contract of Nigerian international Oluwatosin Demehin, cementing her place in the Turkish club following a standout debut season, shortly after securing the high-profile signing of compatriot Victor Osimhen.

The 23-year-old defender joined Galatasaray from France’s Stade de Reims in summer 2024 and quickly became a defensive cornerstone. Despite the team finishing fourth in the Women’s Super League, Demehin’s performances across 26 domestic and UEFA Women’s Champions League games earned widespread praise.

Although Galatasaray exited the Champions League group stage winless against powerhouses Lyon, Roma, and Wolfsburg, Demehin’s leadership and resilience at the back stood out. Her reputation was further enhanced by playing an instrumental role in Nigeria’s 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph. The Super Falcons conceded just two goals from open play during the tournament, with Demehin scoring in the quarter-final victory over Zambia.

Recognised nationally, she received one of Nigeria’s highest honours—the Order of the Niger (OON) alongside rewards for her continental exploits. Her career began at Sunshine Queens before promising spells with Rivers Angels and Nigeria’s U-20 Falconets, rapidly establishing herself as one of Africa’s brightest defensive prospects.

A Galatasaray spokesperson commented, “Oluwatosin has shown remarkable growth and professionalism. This contract extension underlines our belief in her as a key player for the club’s future ambitions in Turkey and Europe.”

Demehin follows Osimhen, who recently completed a record-breaking transfer from Napoli, as the Nigerian stars shaping Galatasaray’s resurgence on and off the pitch.

Demehin said, “I am honoured to continue my journey with Galatasaray. This club believes in me and supports my growth, and I am determined to help us challenge for titles both domestically and in Europe.”
