Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has drawn attention to the substandard condition of the Nigerian team’s hotel in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon.
Sharing images on social media, the Fulham midfielder highlighted the state of the accommodation at the Rive Hotel, prompting concerns over player welfare and logistical planning. The squad, which includes William Troost-Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, and Olakunle Olusegun, is expected to begin full training sessions on Monday ahead of the crucial tie.
While the Nigeria Football Federation has yet to comment, the development has reignited debates about the preparedness of the national team for major international assignments.
Nigeria earned their place in the playoff after finishing second in Group C of the qualifiers, following a 4-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo. The Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semifinal, with the winner advancing to play either DR Congo or Cameroon in the final. A victory there would secure a spot in the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026, where a ticket to the FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico will be at stake.
