Despite a false start in Sunday’s Community Shield penalty shootout loss to Crystal Palace, the Reds are favourites to retain their crown.
Premier League contenders
As the defending champions, Liverpool enter the season as the team to beat.
The Reds have been aggressive in the transfer market, adding talent to their already formidable squad, with Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez moving to Merseyside.
With a title-winning mentality established and key figures remaining, Liverpool’s main challenge will be to adapt to their new signings while maintaining consistency.

The departure of key figures like Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker has prompted a significant summer refresh of both the playing squad and the coaching staff. Pep Guardiola, who has brought in his former rival Jurgen Klopp’s long-term assistant Pep Lijnders, has a renewed tactical outlook focusing on adaptability.
With Erling Haaland leading the line, a revitalised and hungry City squad will be a formidable opponent, even if their start may be slowed following Rodri’s injury setback.
Chelsea star warns Premier League contenders
Chelsea captain Reece James believes the Blues are back where they belong after a mixed first year under Enzo Maresca that culminated in a Conference League win and a stunning Club World Cup victory.
The West London club have continued their fine form with victories over Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan in a shortened pre-season, further highlighting why many consider them the best side outside the leading three Premier League clubs.
Nevertheless, James thinks the five-time Premier League side have significantly improved.
“We’re in a good position,” said the Chelsea captain. “We want to compete at the highest level and win the competitions we’re in. We’re preparing the best we can.
“It’s early days, we’ve only had a few days with the new players so far, but they’re great additions to the squad. We have good depth this year, and we hope to go close.
