The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an application for bail pending appeal filed by Garba Dukku, a former Director of Finance and Administration of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
Dukku is serving a 24-year prison sentence after being convicted for diverting approximately ₦319 million in public funds.
In its ruling, the appellate court declined to grant the request, meaning the former senior FCTA official will remain in custody while his appeal against the conviction and sentence is being determined.
The case stems from the misappropriation of public funds entrusted to the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, with the trial court finding Dukku guilty of unlawfully diverting about ₦319 million, leading to his conviction and lengthy jail term.
The Court of Appeal’s decision marks another significant development in Nigeria’s anti-corruption drive, reinforcing the principle that convicted public officials must present exceptional grounds before being granted bail pending the determination of their appeals.
