The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed reports claiming that former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, was arrested over the alleged Public Funds Investment and Procurement Compliance (PFIPC) scandal.
The anti-corruption agency said Gbajabiamila was only invited for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation and was not detained by the commission.
In a statement, the ICPC clarified that the former lawmaker voluntarily honoured an invitation from investigators to provide information relating to the matter.
The commission urged members of the public and the media to disregard what it described as misleading reports suggesting that Gbajabiamila had been arrested.
“The former Speaker was invited for clarification and questioning in connection with the investigation. He was not arrested,” the ICPC said.
The development comes amid growing public attention over allegations surrounding the PFIPC matter, with the anti-graft agency insisting that its investigation process remains focused on establishing the facts.
Gbajabiamila, who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023, is currently the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The ICPC said it would continue its investigations in line with due process and would provide updates when necessary.
