Adebayo Adelabu has resigned from his position, stepping down effective April 30, 2026, to pursue his long-standing ambition to become governor of Oyo State.

In a letter addressed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and dated April 22, 2026, Adelabu said his decision was driven by the need to fully commit to his gubernatorial aspiration, which he noted dates back to 2016.

He referenced his earlier resignation as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in 2018 as part of his continued pursuit of the same political goal.

Adelabu expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as Minister of Power, describing the sector as pivotal to Nigeria’s industrial development and economic transformation. He added that his decision to step down ahead of schedule was intended to ensure a smooth transition and handover of responsibilities.
