President Bola Tinubu celebrated a resounding victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s by-elections, with the party clinching 12 of 16 constituencies across 12 states, solidifying its political dominance.
In a statement released Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the president hailed the APC’s sweeping success, crediting the party’s unity and strategic leadership. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured two seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) each claimed one.
Tinubu commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting “hitch-free elections, mostly devoid of violence,” ensuring a transparent and peaceful process. He also singled out newly appointed APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for steering the party to its first major win under his leadership.
“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and with unity of purpose among party leaders,” Tinubu said.
The president extended congratulations to APC governors and party leaders, urging them to sustain the momentum. “To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not a mere slogan. Our destination is a better, more secure, and prosperous Nigeria,” he added.
Tinubu also called on all political parties and candidates to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and fairness, emphasizing that such values strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
