A senior aide to former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Kwankwaso to unite with the opposition following a court ruling that dismissed efforts to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the National Democratic Coalition (NDC).

The aide described the court’s decision as a victory for democratic pluralism and urged opposition leaders to put aside political differences in pursuit of a common objective ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the ruling presents an opportunity for opposition parties and key political figures to forge a united front capable of mounting a formidable challenge to the ruling party.

He argued that national interest should take precedence over individual political ambitions, stressing that cooperation among opposition leaders would strengthen democratic competition and offer Nigerians a credible alternative.

The appeal comes amid growing discussions over possible political realignments and coalition-building as parties begin positioning themselves for the next election cycle.
