Former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, has thrown his full weight behind the newly appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling for unity, inclusivity, and renewed commitment to the party’s founding values.

In an open letter released on Tuesday, Mr Al-Makura described the appointment as a “reflection of the APC’s collective resolve to embrace renewal, stability, and forward-looking leadership.” He commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Executive Committee (NEC) for endorsing the new chairman, lauding the decision as a sign of political maturity and internal democratic resilience.

“This is not merely a change in leadership,” he wrote. “It is a reaffirmation of the principles that birthed our party—discipline, equity, inclusiveness, and the prioritisation of national interest over personal ambition.”

A key architect of the 2013 merger that gave rise to the APC, Mr Al-Makura urged party members to seize the opportunity to rebuild internal cohesion and restore public confidence.

He dismissed suggestions that the leadership transition signals instability, arguing instead that it demonstrates the party’s ability to evolve and self-correct.

“I am in total and unflinching support of the President’s and NEC’s decision regarding your appointment. The party has spoken, and we must move forward together,” he affirmed.

Mr Al-Makura emphasised that unity, peace, and party cohesion must be prioritised over personal ambition. He reiterated his long-standing dedication to the APC and pledged continued service as a mentor and strategist.

“My commitment to the APC is unwavering. I offer my guidance and experience not for personal gain, but for the party’s growth and Nigeria’s progress,” he said.

Calling on all stakeholders to support the new leadership, he urged a renewed emphasis on internal dialogue, consensus-building, and political maturity.

“The APC is not just a political organisation; it is a symbol of national resolve—proof of what is possible when Nigerians unite across divides to build a shared future.”

He encouraged the new leadership to go beyond administrative roles and offer moral clarity in addressing the country’s current socio-political challenges. He advocated for a leadership style anchored in inclusivity, reconciliation, and strategic patience.

“You assume office at a time of immense opportunity and even greater responsibility. Nigerians are calling for sincerity, empathy, and results,” he said.

In closing, Mr Al-Makura pledged to act as a bridge between generations and regions, vowing to support the party’s leadership in upholding its founding mission and mentoring emerging leaders.

“I was part of the historic compromises that formed this party. Today, I remain not as a contender, but as a resource, a bridge, and a committed progressive.”
