Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that “good will prevail over evil” as impeachment proceedings against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara formally commenced.
Speaking on the development, Wike said the majority of Nigerians and Rivers State residents stood for peace and justice, insisting that only a small group was bent on plunging the state into crisis.
“The good people are more in number than the few people who want to rub us black, but God, in His infinite mercy, will not allow evil to prevail over light,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor framed the unfolding political confrontation as a test of moral responsibility and divine justice, calling for calm amid heightened political tension in the oil-rich state.
The impeachment process, initiated by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, follows months of deepening rifts within the state’s political leadership, particularly between Governor Fubara and his predecessor.
Political observers say the proceedings could further reshape the balance of power in Rivers State, which has remained a key political battleground in southern Nigeria.
As the process unfolds, calls have grown for restraint and dialogue to prevent a repeat of past political crises that disrupted governance and security in the state.
