The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced the signing of major gas sale and purchase agreements valued at about $20bn over the past year, in what the company described as a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global energy market.

The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd, Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this on Tuesday during the 25th edition of NOG Energy Week held in Abuja.

Ojulari said the agreements, signed since the 2025 edition of the energy summit, represent growing investor confidence in Nigeria’s gas sector and reflect the company’s commitment to unlocking the country’s vast natural gas resources.

According to him, the deals cover strategic gas projects aimed at expanding supply capacity, supporting industrial development, and boosting Nigeria’s role as a key energy supplier in Africa and beyond.

“Since the last NOG Energy Week, we have signed several landmark Gas Sale and Purchase Agreements with a combined value of about $20bn,” Ojulari said, highlighting the scale of investments attracted to the sector.

The NNPC boss noted that Nigeria’s gas industry remains central to the country’s economic transformation agenda, particularly as the government seeks to increase domestic gas utilisation, enhance power generation, and attract more foreign investment into the energy sector.

He added that collaboration between government agencies, private investors and international partners would be critical to achieving sustainable growth in the industry.

Nigeria, which holds one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world, has continued efforts to position gas as a transition fuel and a major driver of economic growth amid global shifts in energy demand.

The announcement comes as stakeholders at the NOG Energy Week summit deliberate on ways to expand investment, improve infrastructure and accelerate development across Africa’s energy landscape.
