Senator Adams Oshiomhole has clarified that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid rather than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a political party.
Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the Senate, made the clarification during an interview with TVC, following recent disagreements between Wike and some APC governors over the minister’s political activities ahead of the 2027 elections. (Daily Post)
The former Edo State governor said Wike had repeatedly made it clear that he was not an APC member, despite his public support for President Tinubu.
“Wike is supporting President Tinubu and not the APC,” Oshiomhole said, adding that both Wike and the APC governors were nevertheless working towards the same objective of supporting Tinubu’s re-election.
Oshiomhole said he was not aware of any disagreement between the two sides over Tinubu’s presidential bid, despite the political differences that have emerged over Wike’s activities.
“He has said so himself repeatedly that he is not an APC person; he is not a member of the APC, but he supports the President,” the senator said.
Wike has also previously stated that his 2027 political support is specifically for Tinubu’s presidential re-election and does not prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from fielding candidates for governorship and legislative elections. (Trending News)
The clarification comes as political parties and influential politicians increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Wike’s cross-party mobilisation for Tinubu generating debate within both the APC and PDP.
