Seven Pakistani nationals have been intercepted by the police at a hotel in Otukpo, Benue State, as authorities intensify investigations into their activities.

The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Cletus Nwadiogbu, confirmed the development, saying the foreign nationals were taken into custody for routine security checks.

According to the police commissioner, the seven men presented valid travel documents and told investigators they were in Nigeria to conduct a market survey for an electronics business.

However, Mr Nwadiogbu said the Benue State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has commenced a detailed verification of their identities, travel history and the purpose of their visit to ensure there are no security concerns.

He stressed that the exercise is part of the command’s proactive efforts to safeguard lives and property, adding that investigations are ongoing.

The police have not announced any criminal charges against the individuals, and authorities say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
