The West African Examinations Council has apologised to candidates after discovering technical problems in the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates.

In a statement issued on Thursday from its Lagos headquarters, the examination body confirmed that a new system introduced to fight malpractice had triggered the glitch.

WAEC’s acting head of public affairs, Moyosola Adesina, explained that the council used a method known as paper serialisation in key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

She said the method, already used by another national exam body, was meant to strengthen exam integrity. But after the results were released, an internal review revealed bugs that affected score accuracy.

“Due to this, access to the result checker portal has been temporarily suspended,” Adesina said.

“We are working urgently to correct the issue and expect full resolution within 24 hours. We deeply regret the inconvenience and appreciate the patience of candidates and parents.”

She urged candidates who have already checked their results to do so again after the 24-hour window.

“WAEC remains committed to fairness, professionalism and transparency,” the statement added.

The council said it would restore access to the result checker portal once the affected results have been updated and verified.
