Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by an additional two weeks, giving eligible Nigerians until Friday, July 24, 2026, to register ahead of future elections.

The electoral body announced that the extension is aimed at accommodating the growing number of prospective voters seeking to enrol across the country, following increased public participation since the exercise commenced.

In a significant move to improve accessibility and ease congestion at registration centres, INEC also unveiled a self-service registration platform for first-time voters. The new system will allow eligible Nigerians to begin the registration process online before completing the mandatory biometric capture at designated INEC registration centres.

The commission said the initiative is designed to make voter registration more convenient, reduce waiting times, and encourage wider participation, particularly among young Nigerians and citizens who are registering for the first time.

The extension offers another opportunity for millions of eligible citizens who are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), replace lost or damaged cards, or update their voter information.

INEC has urged all eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered to take advantage of the extended deadline and complete the process before July 24, stressing that no further extensions should be expected once the exercise concludes.
