President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Examinations Council (NECO). This decision is part of a broader leadership reshuffle and consolidation within the nation’s key education parastatals.
The announcement, contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also confirmed the appointment of Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu as the Chairman of the NECO Governing Board. Prof. Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, is expected to bring her extensive experience in educational administration to the council.
Strategic Leadership for NBTE and Polytechnics
In a similar move, the President appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). This follows the earlier reappointment of Professor Idris Bugaje as the board’s Executive Secretary for a final five-year term.
Furthermore, Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been named the new Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State. Dr. Binfa, the former Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, takes over from the pioneer rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, for a single five-year tenure.
Continuity at the National Library
President Tinubu also renewed the tenure of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as the Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years. Since her initial appointment in 2021, Prof. Anunobi has been credited with digitizing the institution through the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library. Her reappointment is seen as a move to ensure the completion of the National Library’s permanent headquarters in Abuja.
According to the Presidency, these appointments are aimed at “strengthening institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education” and ensuring that the sector is led by seasoned professionals capable of driving the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
