Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term, insisting that the ruling party remains firmly on course for victory despite growing political realignments ahead of the next general election.
Speaking on the state of the country’s political landscape, the former Abia State governor argued that the opposition lacks the strength, unity and national spread required to mount a credible challenge against the incumbent president.
“We are not going back; we are moving forward. We are going to win the election competitively,” Kalu said.
He maintained that President Tinubu currently has “no real competition,” claiming that opposition parties remain deeply divided and politically weakened.
“The opposition is in tatters. President Tinubu has no competition,” the senator said, adding that winning Nigeria’s presidency requires broad national support rather than relying on a single geopolitical region.
“You don’t use only the South-East to challenge the President of Nigeria. Let us not throw away our votes,” he added.
Kalu’s remarks come amid continued political consultations and coalition talks among opposition figures seeking to build a united front ahead of the next presidential election. His comments underscore the confidence within the ruling camp that the opposition remains fragmented and incapable of unseating the governing party.
The senator’s statements are likely to further fuel political debate as parties intensify preparations for the next electoral cycle, with both the ruling party and opposition expected to ramp up mobilisation efforts across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
