Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stressed the importance of international cooperation in tackling security challenges, saying no nation can effectively operate in isolation in an increasingly interconnected world.
Responding to a question on balancing security partnerships between the United States and France, the Nigerian president pointed to global diplomacy involving Donald Trump and China over Taiwan as evidence that even the world’s most powerful leaders rely on strategic alliances and dialogue.
“You can’t do anything in isolation. Even President Trump, as bold as he is, is in China talking about Taiwan. Who am I in Nigeria to say I’ll do it alone?” Tinubu said.
The president added that Nigeria must strengthen ties with neighbouring countries and key global partners through what he described as “pragmatic collaboration and partnership” aimed at improving the security of lives and property across the country.
Tinubu’s remarks come amid growing concerns over regional insecurity in West Africa, including terrorism, banditry and cross-border crimes, issues that have increasingly pushed African nations towards joint military and intelligence cooperation.
