Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has said the South-East region will return its support to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, describing the 2023 election outcome as an “accident of history.”
Speaking on the political outlook ahead of the next polls, Umahi insisted that the region would consolidate its backing for the administration of Bola Tinubu, citing what he described as perceived benefits and inclusion under the current government.
“In 2027, we the South-East people will reciprocate what President Tinubu has done for the South-East,” he said. “What happened in the last election was an accident of history and will not happen in 2027. We will vote for Tinubu.”
The remarks add to early political positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, as alliances and regional calculations gradually begin to take shape across Nigeria’s political landscape.
