The Senate will today commence the screening of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (retd.), following President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of the retired military chief as the new Minister of Defence.
General Musa, who led the Armed Forces between 2023 and 2024, is expected to appear before the upper chamber to outline his strategic vision for strengthening national security, improving inter-agency cooperation, and responding to emerging threats across the country.
Legislative sources say the Red Chamber has placed the screening high on its order of business, given the strategic importance of the Defence Ministry at a time when Nigeria continues to confront terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges.
If confirmed, Musa will replace the former Defence Minister and assume a central role in executing the administration’s security reforms and defence modernisation agenda.
His nomination has drawn attention from security analysts, who describe the move as a continuation of Tinubu’s push for a more assertive and intelligence-driven security architecture.
The Senate’s decision on his confirmation is expected later today.
