The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, led a high-powered delegation of senators and members of the National Assembly to Jos on Thursday, July 25, 2025, to offer condolences to Senator Diket Plang (Plateau Central Senatorial District) on the passing of his wife, Professor Janet Plang.
The delegation was warmly received at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos, by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, who then accompanied them to the solemn funeral service held at the COCIN Headquarters in Jos. The service saw a significant gathering of prominent figures from across Nigeria, all paying tribute to the distinguished academic and community leader.
During the service, Speaker Gapyil expressed his heartfelt sympathies to Senator Plang and his family, remembering Professor Janet Plang as a “woman of virtue whose academic excellence and personal devotion positively impacted many lives.”
Senator Akpabio eulogized Professor Plang as a “nurturing and inspiring figure who shaped countless lives through her career in education.” He also took the opportunity to condemn the ongoing acts of terrorism in Plateau State, reaffirming the National Assembly’s steadfast commitment to supporting efforts to resolve the state’s security challenges.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, also present at the service, commended Senator Plang for his resilience during this difficult period and offered prayers for the family’s continued comfort.
Among the notable attendees were former governors of Plateau, Edo, and Sokoto States, principal Senate officers, traditional rulers, senior government officials, and representatives of the Wives of the President and Wives of Senators. The latter group paid a special tribute to Professor Janet Plang as a “woman of faith, integrity, and dedicated service,” extending their prayers and condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Plateau State.

In his vote of thanks, Senator Diket Plang expressed profound gratitude to his colleagues, traditional rulers, the wives of senators, and all well-wishers who traveled to honor his late wife. He fondly remembered her as a “devoted academic, loving spouse, and unwavering pillar of strength.”
Professor Janet Plang was a highly respected lecturer at the University of Jos and the cherished wife of Senator Diket Plang.
