Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has launched a scathing attack on the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the government of reckless spending despite the country’s worsening debt crisis.

Speaking in strong terms, Obasanjo described the administration as “a complete failure”, alleging that the government continues to spend public funds extravagantly while Nigeria grapples with mounting economic pressure.

“The government is deep in debt, yet he is spending money like a drunken sailor,” the former president said, in remarks likely to intensify political debate over the country’s fiscal direction.

The criticism comes amid growing public concern over inflation, rising living costs and Nigeria’s debt burden, with opposition figures and economic analysts increasingly questioning the government’s spending priorities.

While supporters of the Tinubu administration argue that ongoing reforms are necessary to stabilise the economy in the long term, critics insist ordinary Nigerians are bearing the brunt of difficult policies without immediate relief.

Obasanjo’s remarks add to a widening chorus of voices challenging the government’s handling of the economy as political tensions continue to mount across Africa’s largest economy.
