Senator Adamu Aliero has sharply criticised former Edo State Governor and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, describing his recent comments on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited as “reckless” and potentially damaging to the country’s economic interests.
Speaking during a heated exchange, Aliero defended the state-owned oil company, insisting that the NNPC remains Nigeria’s “cash cow” and a critical pillar of government revenue.
“Your statement is reckless. NNPC is our cash cow,” Aliero said, arguing that public officials should avoid making remarks capable of undermining confidence in one of the nation’s most strategic institutions.
The comments add to growing tensions over the management, transparency and performance of the NNPC, issues that have continued to generate debate among lawmakers and the public amid ongoing economic reforms.
Neither Oshiomhole nor the NNPC had immediately responded publicly to Aliero’s remarks at the time of reporting.
