Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna State, has declared that he has no preferred or “anointed” candidates for the 2027 general elections, vowing not to interfere in the selection of party flag bearers during upcoming primaries.
Sani made the remarks on Tuesday night while breaking the Ramadan fast with members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, amid growing political manoeuvring ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The governor said he would allow party members to determine their candidates through a transparent and democratic process, stressing that internal democracy remains central to the credibility of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I don’t have anointed candidates,” Sani told lawmakers. “My advice to every aspirant who is seeking any office is to get the support of party members.”
His comments come as political stakeholders across Nigeria begin consultations and grassroots mobilisation in anticipation of party primaries expected ahead of the 2027 polls.
Sani pledged to support whoever emerges through what he described as a fair and people-driven process, signalling an attempt to quell speculation about possible endorsements within the party’s Kaduna chapter.
Observers say the governor’s stance could help ease internal tensions within the APC in Kaduna, where competition for elective positions is already intensifying. By distancing himself from any aspirant, Sani appears to be positioning his administration as a neutral arbiter in intra-party contests.
