Nigeria’s military says its troops killed at least 118 armed fighters, arrested 314 suspects and rescued 221 kidnapped civilians during a series of nationwide security operations carried out in May.

Military authorities also disclosed that 18 fighters surrendered to government forces during the period, as troops intensified offensives against armed groups and criminal networks operating across different parts of the country.

Speaking on the operations, an army commander said the military recorded significant gains in ongoing counterterrorism and anti-banditry campaigns, particularly in the country’s northeast and northwest regions, where armed violence and kidnappings have remained persistent security concerns.

According to the military, troops recovered weapons, ammunition and other logistics during coordinated raids and clearance operations aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and restoring stability in affected communities.
