Nigeria’s National Assembly has approved a ₦2.285 trillion budget for the Federal Capital Territory for the 2026 fiscal year, marking one of the largest appropriations ever passed for the nation’s capital.

The appropriation bill scaled third reading in both the Senate and the House of Representatives during plenary sessions on Thursday, paving the way for implementation of the territory’s spending plans.

Lawmakers said the budget is expected to drive infrastructure expansion, public services, and administrative projects across Abuja and surrounding districts under the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The passage comes amid mounting economic pressures and growing demands for improved urban development, transportation, and social amenities in the rapidly expanding capital region.

The approved spending package now awaits the next stage of executive action before full implementation can begin.
