A Nigerian court has rejected crucial evidence presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the ongoing fraud trial of former aviation minister, Hadi Sirika.

The ruling marks a significant setback for the anti-graft agency’s case against Sirika, who is facing charges linked to an alleged N2.8 billion fraud.

During proceedings, the court held that the contested evidence did not meet the required legal standards for admissibility, effectively weakening a central pillar of the prosecution’s argument.

The EFCC had relied on the evidence to support claims of financial misconduct against the former minister. However, the defence challenged its validity, arguing procedural and evidentiary flaws.

While the trial continues, the court’s decision is expected to shape the direction of the case, as prosecutors may now need to reassess their strategy.

The EFCC has yet to publicly respond to the ruling.
