Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano, says he has begun “wide-ranging consultations” over his next political move, amid growing uncertainty surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking in the wake of a recent ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the party’s protracted leadership dispute, Kwankwaso described the ADC as being in a “precarious position”, signalling potential shifts in Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of future elections.

His comments come as political manoeuvring intensifies following an opposition summit held last month in Ibadan, where leaders discussed possible alliances to challenge the ruling establishment.

Speculation has since grown over a potential joint presidential ticket involving Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State. While neither politician has formally confirmed such an arrangement, Kwankwaso’s latest remarks suggest ongoing behind-the-scenes negotiations.

Analysts say the evolving dynamics within the ADC, combined with broader coalition talks among opposition figures, could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape in the months ahead.
