The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, for the conduct of the bye-election into the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State.

The election is expected to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo.

INEC said the election would be conducted in accordance with the relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and the Electoral Act, as it released the timetable and schedule of activities for the poll.

The commission has also urged all political parties taking part in the election to strictly adhere to the approved timetable and ensure that their activities remain within the provisions of the law.

The September 19 poll forms part of a series of legislative bye-elections scheduled by INEC to fill vacant seats across several states.

The commission said the process would be conducted in line with its commitment to ensuring a credible, inclusive and transparent electoral process.

Political parties are expected to proceed with their nomination and campaign activities in accordance with the commission’s guidelines ahead of the election.

The Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye seat is expected to attract keen political interest as parties begin preparations to secure the constituency’s representation in the National Assembly.
