Former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint more “mad men” into his administration, describing them as bold, results-driven individuals willing to challenge entrenched interests and confront Nigeria’s inefficient systems.
Mr Murray-Bruce, while expressing support for the Tinubu administration, said loyalty should not prevent constructive criticism or the offering of ideas aimed at improving the country.
He argued that Nigeria needed people who were prepared to think differently, question established practices and take decisive action where existing systems were failing to deliver the desired results.
According to him, appointing individuals with the courage to disrupt inefficient structures could help the government achieve more meaningful reforms and improve service delivery to Nigerians.
The former senator stressed that supporting the president did not mean agreeing with every policy or decision of the administration.
He said constructive criticism should instead be viewed as part of the process of strengthening government and ensuring that policies were designed and implemented in the best interests of the country.
Mr Murray-Bruce’s comments come amid continuing debates over the pace and impact of reforms under President Tinubu, whose administration has introduced a number of major economic and institutional changes since taking office.
He maintained that the country needed leaders and public officials who were not afraid to confront difficult problems and challenge interests that had become entrenched within Nigeria’s systems.
For Mr Murray-Bruce, the appointment of such “mad men” could provide the bold thinking and determination required to deliver tangible results for Nigerians.
