Channels Television journalist Seun Okinbaloye has dismissed recent threats from Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, declaring that he remains unafraid and committed to holding power accountable.

Speaking during a broadcast on Sunday, Okinbaloye responded firmly: “Let me be clear: I’m not afraid, and I will never be intimidated.” He emphasized that journalism “remains a duty to the public, not a concession to power.”

The anchor expressed gratitude to viewers and civil society groups for their support, stating that it “reinforces our collective commitment to truth and accountability.”

Okinbaloye also issued a broader warning about Nigeria’s democratic health, saying, “Our democracy is in danger if we allow one-way traffic in balloting.” He cautioned that inflammatory remarks could foster an environment ripe for exploitation by those with harmful intentions.

The controversy erupted on Friday during a media parley in Abuja, where Wike took issue with Okinbaloye’s comments on Politics Today regarding the risk of Nigeria sliding into a one-party state. The minister reportedly said that if he could “break the screen,” he “would have shot him”—a remark that has since drawn sharp condemnation from civil society and media groups.

Despite the backlash, Okinbaloye reaffirmed his resolve to continue “asking the necessary questions” and holding those in power to account.
